Birthday Parties…Yeah! (or maybe not)

Birthday Parties are fun right?   Well, maybe if you’re the birthday girl or boy and you aren’t planning the party.  As the birthday Mom or Dad birthday parties aren’t so much fun.

First, you have to determine where to have the party – and then figure out if that location has time for your event on the date that you want it.  The easiest thing to do is to have it at your house – but having 25 4 year olds and their parents running around your house may not be feasible – it’s not at our house.

So after you have the location and the date – you need to send an invitation.  That can be fairly simple – unless you have an issue with invitations – like I do – and then you’ll need the perfect invitation which requires the perfect picture of your child with the perfect background, etc.

And of course – you have to decide who you are going to invite – do you invite all the kids in the class?  Just the girls?  Just the boys?  Just the kids who your kid plays with? Just the kids who you want your kid to play with?  Just the kids whose parents you like?  Just the kids whose parents you think you might like?  You can see where this goes…

So after the invitation is created you need to send the invitations out – again – easy if you have the addresses of all the kids you are inviting.  Not so easy if you don’t have their addresses, phone numbers – or at this point – even all of their names.

After that you have to get the cake and decorations, make sure that the kids get their nap that day, get to the location and make sure that they party leader actually knows the name of your child and know who she/he is so that when they say “come on up here birthday girl” they aren’t pointing to the child sitting next to the birthday kid!

Anyway – this is where I’m at…the party is only a 2.5 weeks away and I don’t have anything done – well I know when and where – but that’s it.

Any advice from the party planning parents out there?
