Decorating a Nursery
Welcome to the second day of the PARENTise Blog Tour!
Today, the PARENTise blog is the host of the giveaway, so you don’t have to go any further than right here!!
Today our giveaway is a $25 gift certificate to Pottery Barn Kids! So in that vein, I thought I’d talk about decorating your child’s room.
If you’re anything like us (or should I say me) decorating your child’s room can become something of a passion. I spent hours choosing the design for our first daughter’s room. When I finally decided what I wanted to do for design, I spent even more time choosing the colors. I should clarify here though that we didn’t know whether we were having a boy or a girl, so a lot of the decision making had to do with “is this too boy?” or “is this too girl?”.
We were lucky enough to get a crib at auction, and we love it. If you’re looking for a furniture for your child’s room - I highly reccomend Natart Juvenile furniture. It’s really well made with beautiful finishing! Anyway - we found a book case and had stain matched to go with it and finally decided on a Natart dresser.
The harder parts were finding the accessories for the room. That’s where Etsy comes in to play! If you haven’t been to Etsy yet, you better go soon! Etsy is full of creative people who create handmade items. There area ton of “shops” that design for kids rooms and you can find some adorable things!
So what did you do in your childs room? Where do you go for accessories for your rooms? Do you have any suggestions for moving from a toddler room to a “big girl” room?
To win today’s giveaway - simply leave a comment on this blog post telling everyone where you shop for your children’s rooms. You can win an extra entry if you become a fan of PARENTise on Facebook (1 entry) or begin following us on Twitter (1 entry). You can win 2 extra entries if you leave a rating here on PARENTise! Just make sure you add a comment with the link to your rating! The winner will be picked by random number generator at the end of the blog tour, so you have 13 days to enter to win!

We bought a great crib and changing table at a garage sale. We like to shop at stores like Baby’s R Us for ideas, then “do it ourselves” if we can.

Let’s see when we did our first sons room we went crazy buying things and making it cute. We bought most of the items at Baby Depot, along with some cute items from some shops in downtown
Sumner (WA) like Basket and Things. Mom went crazy and got his bedding at Macy’s. Now our 2nd son got the short end of the stick, poor little guy got all the pass me downs :).
Also Craigslist has become a favorite to find nice things at a bargain price.

First son got beautiful hand-made crib set and curtains with matching blanket (all by Grandma), accessories, and all the bells and whistles. Nursery was completely set up, including diaper station, 2 weeks before I went into labor. Even the stuffed animals were displayed in the newly set up crib. Mostly from showers/registries.
Second son started out in a co-sleeper next to our bed and we washed the hand-me-downs and got a few new outfits and new baby blankets before he was born- just for him.
Third son slept between us, wore whatever fit and didn’t smell too much like spit-up (irregardless of stains). We pulled out the newborn sizes after we got him home. Hah.

I love Pottery Barn Kids, and I’ve done some shopping at Target. Actually, I’ve done some shopping at Michael’s craft store too for projects to give the rooms a personal touch. I think I just tend to find stuff a little here and there.

My husband is in law school and so we live in on a very tight budget. So where do I go to decorate my daughters room?… Micheals, hobby lobby, and Home Depot. We buy used furniture or make it and then I fix it up really cute from supplies that I buy at the above mentioned stores. My favorite, a dresser I received for free, then I sanded it down, painted it and distressed it to give it an aged country look. I then decorated the top with a white vase I bought for a dollar and some baby booties that were made for my little girl. The total cost= 8.00 dollars. I have to say though, I love the pottery barn and one day that will be a place that I visit very often!!!

I shop practically everywhere, Target, Baby USA, Michael’s, JC Penny’s, eBay. I wish I was more specific with what I get but I guess my kids rooms reflect me and my style… which is well, eclectic.
