Think and Buy Local
There is a movement going on to buy local in order to be more ecologically friendly. I am a fan of that movement where it is possible - sometimes it isn’t - but you’d be surprised about what you can find locally if you look.
I am also a fan of supporting local Mom and Pop shops. That is why I am sharing this with you. The people behind the Baby Bargains books…if you haven’t read them you really should…also have a blog. (They also have a Toddler Bargains book!) They recently did a post about the 21 best independent baby stores in America. That’s right in America (sorry my foreign friends…maybe next time…)
So, who is at the top of the list? That’s a trick question - the list is in alphabetical order. But I will say that if you live near me (in the Philly area) there are 2 stores on the list. Karl’s in Philadelphia and Baby Super Mart in Broomall.
I like independent baby stores - they tend to carry really cute and unique stuff. You can usually find some great independent designers and some cool things you never knew existed. Plus, if they have knowledgeable salespeople, you can learn a lot too! If you live in the Philly area - you might also want to check out Kids and Kribs. They didn’t make the list, but they are pretty great little family owned store.
Did a store in your area make the list? What do you think? Do you have an independent store to reccomend? Let us know!
